Wilston State School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environments for students and staff. Our students have the opportunity to engage in quality learning experiences. We believe every child is capable of successful learning, therefore differentiation is a major focus and evident in every classroom. Students, teachers and parents have access to a variety of support programs.

Support available at Wilston:

  • a special Education Program supporting students with a disability e.g. Intellectual Impairment, Autistic Spectrum Disorder
  • support for students that have English as a second language
  • counselling from our Guidance officer
  • learning support for literacy and numeracy.

Students who are having difficulty with aspects of literacy and numeracy have several avenues of support. At the class level, teachers will offer support and make adjustments to facilitate a student’s optimum participation in the curriculum.

Additional support is provided by other professionals within the school – the Support teacher (Literacy and Numeracy), Teacher ides, the Guidance Officer and Speech Language Pathologist, teachers with expertise in teaching high achieving students and other teachers who are funded for particular programs (NAPLAN funded support Specialist Reading Program). This support may take the form of a targeted program for a set time that withdraws students from class, in-class support, modification of learning tasks, collaborative partnerships with parents, speech/language programs or the implementation of recommendations from specialists to promote the best outcomes for students’ learning.

At Wilston State School we promote and advocate for our students in the wider community. We believe that we need to work as a team to provide for our students.
